Environmentally Friendly Trees
The Great Debate: Real vs. Fake
With the climate crisis on the top of everyone’s minds, there are many questions about which types of trees are environmentally friendly—real or fake? The short answer is:
REAL TREES!Turns out the fresh grown option is best for more than one reason:
Why Fresh Grown is the Best Option
Environmental Benefits
Growing trees absorb carbon dioxide and other gases and emit fresh oxygen. The farms that grow Christmas trees stabilize soil, protect water supplies, and provide refuge for wildlife while creating scenic green belts.
To ensure a constant supply, Christmas tree growers plant one to three new seedlings for every tree they harvest. This means Christmas trees are a sustainable and renewable crop.
Recyclable & Biodegradable
Real Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they can be easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes. (Note: never burn any part of a Christmas tree in a wood stove or fireplace.)
There may even be a goat farm in your area that will accept your Christmas tree post-holiday to feed to their goats! Artificial trees, on the other hand, are petroleum-based and usually end up sitting in a landfill forever.
Support Small Business
Many Christmas trees are sold through small local businesses and the farms themselves. Not only do you get to support local growers, but visiting a farm is accompanied by a unique and fun experience.
It creates special memories for the whole family, complete with special events, hot cocoa, and festive activities you just can't get at a big box store.
Embrace the Season
Lastly, who can resist the amazing smell that a fresh tree provides? The scent of fresh pine needles gives us all the warm fuzzies inside.
So go get yourself a fresh cut tree this Christmas!
